The momentum behind electric vehicles (EVs) continues to grow, with June delivering another record month for EV sales across New Zealand. As more Auckland households make the switch to electric vehicles, demand for safe, reliable home charging solutions is also rising.
As fuel prices remain unpredictable and more drivers experience the benefits of electric motoring, increasing numbers of Kiwis are making the switch away from traditional petrol vehicles.
June saw 20.9% of all new vehicle registrations being fully electric vehicles (BEVs).
Even more impressive, 45% of all new passenger vehicle purchases were either Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs), Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEVs), or Hybrid Electric Vehicles.
These figures highlight a significant shift in buying habits as more New Zealanders embrace electric vehicle technology.
Perhaps the most telling statistic is that many EV buyers are purchasing their first electric vehicle, while many petrol vehicle purchases are simply replacing an existing petrol-powered car. This demonstrates the growing number of households making the transition to electric motoring for the first time.
Tesla remained the standout performer during June, with the Tesla Model Y once again leading the market. Nearly 1,000 new Model Ys were registered during the month - almost four times the number of the next most popular fully electric vehicle.
Toyota also strengthened its position by introducing a Plug-in Hybrid version of its popular RAV4, complementing the already successful RAV4 Hybrid and further contributing to the continued growth of electrified vehicles in New Zealand.
